Britt with a breadfruit (we think?!) as big as her head!!
Britt Carlson is now a graduate of St. Olaf College, in Northfield, Minnesota. She participated as a college junior in a National Science Foundation's Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) program through OTS during the summer of 2003. Her project is part of the larger study on diatom biodiversity and the relationship between diatoms and nutrient gradients at La Selva Biological Station. Britt says, "Becky was my mentor throughout the project and helped me navigate through the crazy world of diatom taxonomy!" Britt started her on her master's degree in environmental education at the University of Minnesota-Duluth in Fall 2005.

Other collaborators:

Dr. Catherine Pringle, Institute of Ecology, University of Georgia

Cathy Pringle is collaborating with us on research related to the relationship between stream solutes and diatom assemblages in streams at La Selva. She has worked in streams at La Selva for a number of years; findings from her work, and colleagues, have been an important basis for this ongoing periphyton research.

Elizabeth Ruck, Ph.D. Candidate, University of Texas, Austin

Elizabeth Ruck is collaborating on the research about Surirella and Stenopterobia diversity in La Selva streams. She is currently working on the molecular and morphological phylogeny of the Surirellales.
